God Values Us

‘Go away from me, Lord, for I am a sinful man!’ …Then Jesus said to Simon, “Do not be afraid; from now on you will be catching people.” Luke 5:1-11

The grace of God is truly an awesome thing. How often do we feel like Simon Peter, aware of our shortcomings and realizing there is much work to do on the self. God on the other hand isn’t interested in our shortcomings, but rather something much deeper within; a contrite and willing heart. Peter’s very statement qualifies his calling in the eyes of Christ and is rewarded for his spiritual obedience. Although it would take Jesus’ death and resurrection before the physical obedience of any of the Apostles, caught up with what they felt in their hearts, Christ never forsakes their needs. For us today it is reassuring to know that in spite of ourselves, God values us and our humility of spirit is honored and blessed with God’s glory.

But I do not count my life of any value to myself, if only I may finish my course and the ministry that I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the good news of God’s grace. Acts 20:17-38
