Yes…But…

“Do you want to be made well?” John 5:1-18  Although a simple question needing only a simple answer, the gentleman forever longing to reach the water in this passage, insisted there was a reason, making the case that it was a little more complicated than it appeared (and it was). However, like many situations in our own lives, his answer implying “yes… but”, is something we all at times do when we perhaps try to over analyze. The gentleman in this story did of course have a hindering physical disability and I believe nothing short of a miracle of faith was necessary and the power of that faith enabled him to act. It was faith that he probably didn’t even know he had (before encountering Jesus) because from the perspective of his life, others and the law, wouldn’t allow him to believe. An interview that I recently heard confirmed something I learned sometime ago. If you have an idea about something that you’ve always wanted to do, don’t tell anybody just start doing it. However small or limited your abilities, act on what it is you want. Start with what you can do. Precious God, thank for your gifts, but most of all thank you for your sufficient grace that enables us to use them all, great and small.
